- Find your pumpkin carving pattern before you find your pumpkin. Having a pumpkin carving pattern in hand will actually make the pumpkin shopping go much smoother. We like to say “plan the work and work the plan” although we are usually talking about slightly more substantial things. But the message applies just the same… time is time… there’s no reason to waste it.
- After you settle on a design, then look at pumpkin carving kits. If you have your heart set on a nice set of carving tools, go for it; but, if this is just an experiment to see if you like carving intricate patterns, buy an inexpensive set and see how it goes.
- If you are experimenting with various depths, consider power tools as an option. A router or a drill can help you in the carving process.
- Save your pumpkin seeds! Roasted pumpkin seeds taste good!
- If you use power tools, do your carving outside!
- Make the carving a social event. It will be a lot more fun eating, drinking and hanging out. It might even be a good time to discuss your Group Halloween Costumes!
- Make sure you have fun… whatever you decide to do. That is the whole point of carving the pumpkins in the first place!
